5 Things To Know Before Moving To Jacksonville, NC
Are you thinking about moving to Jacksonville, North Carolina but don’t know the area well? In this episode of Covering Coastal Carolina, I’m going to share five things that you need to know before you start packing your bags for Jacksonville. We’ll cover everything from patriotism to the beach so you know exactly what to expect.
Welcome To Our Military Town
Life here is probably a little different than where you're coming from. Most people just don't know what they don't know. The first thing you need to know is that Jacksonville is a military town.
We are surrounded by Marine Corps bases. This includes Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, the New River Air Station, and Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. Almost everyone in Jacksonville is affiliated in some way with the military, so I guess you can say we're a pretty patriotic place.
Demographics
The next thing you need to know is that Jacksonville, North Carolina is technically the youngest city in America. The average age of Jacksonville residents is only 22.8 years old. Additionally, at least half of the households in the area have kids under the age of 18 that live with them.
Nearby Swansboro
Third, Swansboro is a tourist must-see. This quaint little town just north of Jacksonville features streets lined with historic buildings and homes. You have to check out all of the local shops and restaurants on the water!
Swansboro often feels like you stepped out of a time machine into a simpler time. It's a perfect place to visit if you want to get away from the city.
Plenty Of Sun
This area is also known for its warm weather. Like any place, we have our share of rainy and cold weather. For the most part, however, it's sunny and 75 degrees almost eight months out of the year. This is awesome for us locals to get to soak up the sun long after the tourist season has come to an end.
The Beach
The fifth and best thing you can do here is to go to the beach. Jacksonville is surrounded by beautiful beaches, so there's always something to do. Locals and tourists alike enjoy watersports, fishing, and anything else you can think of on the ocean.
